Prof. Dr. Sybille Bauriedl
Sybille Bauriedl has been Professor of Integrative Geography at Europa-Universität Flensburg since August 2018 and specializes in urban geography, political ecology, cultural geography, social geography, development geography and education for sustainability with environmental issues. She has been involved in disciplinary theory building as well as interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary applied research for many years.
Research interests:
Her main focus piont are problems in the context of local environmental justice, global justice and resource conflicts. These are currently being addressed in projects on German climate protection and energy transition policy, on bioeconomy and land use conflicts in Tanzania, on gender-specific climate vulnerability, on continuities of colonial structures, on the right to the city movement and on smart city strategies.
There is intensive cooperation on these topics, especially with British geographers and political scientists. This has led to the publication of anthologies such as "Smart City - Kritische Perspektiven auf die Digitalisierung in Städten" (together with Anke Strüver, Transcript-Verlag, 2018), "Wörterbuch Klimadebatte" (Transcript-Verlag, 2016) and "Ökonomisierung von Natur, Raum, Körper. Feministische Perspektiven auf sozialökologische Transformationen" (together with Christa Wichterich in the Rosa-Luxemburg-Stiftung's "Analysen" series).
