The thematic focus of this fellowship project is on the issue of gender and age/s in the Central and Southeast European context. The focus is on the life situations and lifestyles of older men and women in selected Central and Southeast European regions, which will be analyzed on the basis of different data material, with a special focal point on reflecting on the opportunities and challenges of a multi-methodological and interdisciplinary approach within the framework of the analysis. For example, the analysis of literary and cinematic representations of gender and age is set in relation to the results of survey studies. The role of media consumption in general and the significance of new social media for the lives of older people and potential gender disparities in this area are given particular consideration. A comparative perspective on North, Central and South American regions allows specifics of Central and South-Eastern Europe to be worked out.
The combination of cultural-sociological and cultural-scientific approaches allows a deeper understanding of the interactions between media representations of gender and ageing, socio-structural factors of the life situations of men and women, as well as their attitudes and values.
