The project "Space - Gender - Politics. Exploring Gender Spaces from an Inter-/Disciplinary Perspective" aims at developing a gender-, queer- and body-sensitive theoretical framework on the intertwining of space and gender. Based on gender-critical cultural analysis, architectural theory, and historical research approaches, the project deals with processes of gender-specific codifications and discursivation of (imagined and built) spaces. Derived from this, the focus of the project is on political practices and limitations as well as on the empowering agency of subjects dealing with physical and socio-cultural spaces.
The developed theoretical framework serves as a basis for a project application for a Doc-Funds grant (FWF). Another aim is to improve the research orientation of doctoral trainings in "Interdisciplinary Gender Studies" and to consolidate the training structures for postgraduate students at the University of Graz in cooperation with other Austrian universities and gender researchers from the international scientific community.
